YearBeyond Youth Office

Cape Town

The Community Chest in partnership with the Western Cape Government seeks to accelerate opportunities for 18 to 25 year-old youth growing up in poverty through closing the opportunity gap between these young people and their resourced peers.  This is achieved through the Western Cape Government’s flagship youth programme YearBeyond. We are looking for passionate, professional and ambitious staff as outlined below.

About YearBeyond

YearBeyond works with 18-25-year-old youth. The programme provides youth with a meaningful 10-month work experience opportunity, while also engaging in a journey of self-discovery. The aim of the programme is to provide a bridge into the world of work and study for matriculants who are NEETS.

YearBeyond offers wrap-around personal mentor based advice and support with a focus on work readiness, team work, project planning and management as well as skills development in the social services sector (education, health etc). In addition, the youth, who are called YeBoneers, are supported to identify their strengths and weaknesses, develop a personal and professional development plan and actively pursue their dreams.

The programme, which has been running since 2015, is in an expansion phase, with recruitment numbers trebling from 2019. The programme currently serves 500 youth and has an Alumni Community of more than 1 000 youth.

The goal of the programme is to ensure that 75% of YeBoneers on the programme progress into either employment or studies and take up their role as leaders in their communities and work places.

Additional information can be found online at www.yearbeyond.org or on the YearBeyond Facebook page.
